Love in the City

Love in the City

The Love in the City Institute seeks to promote love in the city of Amsterdam. To aid in this, it invites artists to employ their creative talents to foster love. Arno Coenen made a tile tableau of three by six metres, with the title 'Old West – Home is best'.

For this work he photographed kick boxers at his martial arts school in the Old West nieghbourhood. The mix of symbols and texts from different cultures refers to history, but also to the changes in our society today. Through the month of September the tableau can be seen on on outside wall in the Nicolaas Beetsstraat, in the Old West District.

The project is an initiative of Paradiso, Amsterdam.
